NOSE SURGERY
(Rhinoplasty)

Procedure Objective:

Recontour/reshape nose by reducing or augmenting, removing hump, changing shape of the tip or bridge, narrowing span of the nostrils, or changing angle between nose and upper lip. May also relieve some breathing problems i.e. (correction of deviated septum). (Sometimes covered by insurance if deemed medically necessary.)

Length of Procedure:

1 to 2 hours or more depending on what needs to be done to achieve desired look or medical correction.

Type of Anesthesia:

Local with sedation, or general.

In/Outpatient Basis:

Usually outpatient.

Possible Side Effects:

Temporary swelling, bruising around eyes, nose and headaches. Transient congestion or stuffiness resulting in some difficulty breathing. Some bleeding and stiffness.

Possible Risks:

Possible infection. Small burst blood vessels resulting in tiny, permanent red spots. Incomplete or asymmetrical improvement, requiring additional surgery to correct.

Approximate Recovery Period:

Back to work: 1 to 2 weeks. More strenuous activities: 2 to 3 weeks. Avoid hitting nose or sunburn: 8 weeks. Final appearance: 1 year or more. Final results are sometimes not seen until a few months to a year or more after surgery.

Duration of Results:

Permanent.
