BREAST AUGMENTATION
(Augmentation
Mammaplasty)
Please visit our Before
and After Images for actual patient photographs.
| Procedure
Objective: |
Enhance
the size of breasts using inflatable implants
filled with saline. Patients seeking Silicone
implants have to meet certain criteria and have
to agree to be patients in study being performed
for the FDA regarding Silicone Gel Breast Implants.
Must have excellent follow-up and be compliant
with restrictions/instructions. If interested
ask Doctor for details. |
| Length
of Procedure: |
Approximately
1 to 2 hours. |
| Type
of Anesthesia: |
Local
with IV sedation, or general. |
| In/Outpatient
Basis: |
Usually
outpatient. |
| Possible
Side Effects: |
Temporary
tenderness/soreness, swelling, tingling, change
in nipple sensation, bruising. Breast sensitive
to stimulation for a few weeks. |
| Possible
Risks: |
Lack
of implant permanence -- surgical replacement
or removal of the implants may be required to
correct such problems as: deflation; rupture;
or the formation of scar tissue around the implant
(capsular contracture), which may cause the breast
to feel tight or hard; rippling, bleeding or infection.
Increase or decrease in sensitivity of nipples
or breast skin may be transient, occasionally
permanent. Mammography requires a special technique.
Tell your healthcare professional about your implants
before undergoing mammography. In many cases a
mammography will be required as part of your pre-operative
screening before undergoing breast augmentation.
Some patients have also reported auto-immune symptoms
associated with breast implants: ask the Doctor
if you are concerned about this or any other FDA
findings/rulings. |
| Approximate
Recovery Period: |
Back
to work: a few days. Physical contact with breasts:
3 to 4 weeks. Fading of scars: several months
to a year or more. Topical preparations may be
very effective at minimizing scarring: Ask your
doctor if you are concerned about scarring and
what can be done to address this concern. |
| Duration
of
Results: |
Variable.
Implants may require removal or replacement at
a future date. There have been many recent medical
developments since the conception of Breast Implants,
and today’s implants have a longer life-span than
previous ones. |
